Bacteria synthesize PHB under nutrient conditions like excess of carbon and limitation of nitrogen and phosphorus. Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (P(3HB)) was discovered by French scientist Lemoigne in 1926 (Lemoigne, 1926).
