A Tokyo court on Friday dismissed Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) claim that Samsung had infringed on its patent - the latest ruling in the global legal battle between the two technology titans over smartphones.

Fans of the first Note, then, may be heartened to hear that Samsung is said to be planning to bump the screen up to 5.5 inches, according to a SlashGear report citing a Korean newspaper. The newspaper also reported that the phone being introduced Wednesday will have a 1.4 Ghz quadcore processor and may be running the very latest version of Android — Jelly Bean. The phone is also expected to have an 8 MP camera and 16GB or 32GB of storage.

Apple Inc. on Monday gave a federal judge a list of eight Samsung Electronics Co. products it wants pulled from shelves and banned from the U.S. market, including popular Galaxy model smartphones... The products Apple wants out are all smartphones: Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail.

Google has said that it does not want the ruling in the Apple-Samsung patent lawsuit to "limit" consumers' access to Android devices... There has been speculation that the news could encourage handset makers to install the rival Windows Phone system.

Apple’s $1 billion court win against Samsung is translating into a much bigger jump in its market value. Apple shares are up $19, or 2.9 percent, at $682.22 in premarket trading Monday. That boosts Apple Inc.’s market capitalization by $18 billion.

A nugget from the trial is Samsung’s tablet roadmap. The roadmap shows a tablet code named P10. P10 apparently is an 11.8 inch tablet that outdoes Apple’s retina display. The P10 supposedly has a pixel density of 256 ppi and a resolution of 2560 x 1600 (WQXGA). The tablet also seems to provide LTE connectivity.

Overall, within the last quarter, Android outsold iOS devices nearly three to one while capturing 64% of the worldwide market share. Samsung was the top dog accounting for 90M handset sales.
