The number of babies born exposed to opioids is down at one of Maine’s largest hospitals, which might appear to be a positive sign. But the decrease is more puzzling than anything, according to health professionals around the state. Over the last four years, the number of babies born at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor to mothers taking some type of opioid has decreased by 35 percent.
