ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County man who was allegedly spotted "picking the lock" at the Creekside Market just south of Rogersville on Christmas night was charged with vandalism and attempted burglary. On Dec. 25 shortly before 11:30 p.m., HCSO Deputy Kyle Shively responded to a report of a break-in in progress at the Creekside Market, 110 Old Route 70 at the Route 66S intersection. Upon his arrival, Shively observed that the two doors at the entrance appeared to be forced open, and there was a large gap left between the doors when he tried to close them. A witness told Shively that a man wearing a black jacket and blue jeans was observed in the doorway apparently "picking the lock". A short time later, Deputy Jessie Williams detained the suspect, Jonathan Michael Sanders, 34, 103 Circle Drive, Rogersville, after seeing him walking along the roadway less than a mile from the store. Sanders reportedly admitted that he had been sitting on a bench near the store entrance.
