A student at La Center High School collapsed in the parking lot Wednesday morning, but luckily a firefighter was already at the school and ran to help. The girl had a medical incident and was found unconscious and was not breathing in the parking lot just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, prompting an emergency response. Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Brett Greham was already at the school and ran out to render aid within moments, the agency’s spokesman Tim Dawdy said. A school nurse also responded and gave the girl CPR while Greham used his AED to shock the student, Dawdy said. Paramedics from the fire agency also responded and treated the girl, and together they were able to resuscitate her and transport her to Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel.
