About a half dozen times Shell made it as far as Van Dyke's door panel attempting to pass on the inside, but he always lost the grip coming out of turn four and had to fall back in line. In a last ditch effort on the white flag lap Shell banged Van Dyke's door coming out of turn four and spun himself out, relegating him to a 13th place finish.
