Charles Devernie Harrison, a dining companion and one-time biographer for former United Way CEO Gloria Pace King, is awaiting sentencing for an $11 million securities fraud scheme that targeted elderly investors. Harrison, a former employee of the United Way in Charlotte, pleaded guilty to helping run an operation that took money under the pretense of putting on concerts for churches, universities and other nonprofit groups.His lawyer, Noell Tin, stressed Thursday that Harrison's legal troubles aren't related to United Way.
