Animal experts at Zoo Miami took Kwame, a 17-year-old, nearly 400-pound male lion for a vet visit this week. Unlike a 10-pound house cat, Kwame required sedation. Among other things, veterinarians cleaned his teeth, including his 4-inch canines, and trimmed his nails with pliers large enough to prune a hedge. Trimming Kwame’s nails requires strong equipment.
