History Class: A Fiction

Marion Doss / Flickr Earlier this month, McGraw Hill found itself at the center of some rather embarrassing press after a photo showing a page from one of its high-school world-geography textbooks was disseminated on social media. The page features a seemingly innocuous polychromatic map of the United States, broken up into thousands of counties, as part of a lesson on the country’s immigration patterns: Different colors correspond with various ancestral groups, and the color assigned to each county indicates its largest ethnic representation.

  • What do I expect when taking an Art History course in college?
My first art history class was a survey class for art from 1250 to present. If you are taking an intro-level survey course, expect a lot of memorization of art terms and of the art itself. We had to memorize the piece of art, artist, year, medium, location, and art movement for everything we covered.

  • I believe history is a boring, useless topic in school. CMV.
I hated history in high school as well. It was nothing but World War II and the gold rush (I live near San Francisco) every single year. But a few years later I became enthralled in things history class never covered. I took an awesome class at community collage called the Roots of Hell. Even as an atheist, I found this class to be a lot of fun.

  • Easiest History Class? : r/aggies
Howdy! I need one more core curriculum history class and I want to take one that isn't too much work. The first one I took was HIST 232 and it was very interesting and I did well, but it was a lot of reading and very time consuming. If there are any that y'all know of that I can coast through, that would be sick.

  • What is the easiest HISTORY class? : r/uofmn
The history of modern technology water wheels is a pretty easy class. Little bit of reading and for exams you just have to remember 3 pieces of evidence from lectures, readings, or class books. Then you tie them together in an essay which is very open ended to interpretation. You get the prompts ahead of time too so you can prepare.
