MIAMI — The question Saturday was about Bam Adebayo’s passing, with Erik Spoelstra’s eyes lighting up. It proved to be a takeoff point for the Miami Heat coach to also light into those questioning his center’s offense. While Adebayo’s scoring average is down more than three points from last season, and while Adebayo’s shooting percentage is down 80 percentage points, Spoelstra said that misses the point — particularly with a point center. As it is, Adebayo heads into Monday night’s game against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on a career-best streak of 10 consecutive games with at least five assists, his 5.2 assist average his highest in four seasons. “It’s really important for our offense,” Spoelstra said of that playmaking.
