SURGOINSVILLE — A Hawkins County man who allegedly fled a traffic stop in Surgoinsville on New Year’s Day while tossing items out of the vehicle at 95 mph is set to appear in court Wednesday on charges including meth and marijuana possession. On Jan. 1, Church Hill Police Department Officer Chad Gillenwater, who was working part time for the Surgoinsville Police Department, observed an eastbound Mitsubishi Eclipse traveling 78 mph on Highway 11-W near Phipps Bend Road. When Gillenwater caught up to the Eclipse and attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly accelerated to 95 mph. Gillenwater stated in his report that during this pursuit he observed “small unknown items being thrown from the driver’s window of the vehicle.” SPD Chief James Hammonds said none of those items were recovered on the highway. The pursuit lasted about a mile until the driver, later identified as Brandon Lee “Pork Chop” Davis, stopped near the Kingsport Press Road intersection. Gillenwater said there was a strong odor of marijuana smoke in the vehicle and a small amount of marijuana was in plain view behind the console. While Gillenwater was speaking to Davis, the officer reportedly observed him remove a small baggy of what was later determined to be meth from his shirt pocket and drop it on the ground. Davis, 26, 314 Cave Springs Road, Rogersville, was also allegedly found in possession of several empty baggies, a marijuana pipe and a snort straw. The lone passenger in the vehicle, Misty Nicole Pearson, 36, 480 Fudges Chapel Road, Church Hill, reportedly had a plastic case visible on top of her purse. That container was reportedly found to contain a half-gram of meth, several empty meth baggies, and two pills identified as Neurontin. Pearson was charged with simple possession of meth, possession of a legend drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.
