GATE CITY — Gate City’s girls got quite the scare from Lee on Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Mountain 7 District girls soccer tournament at Legion Field. Star forward Callie McMurray scored in each half and the Lady Blue Devils escaped with a hard-earned 2-0 victory that came despite Lady Generals goalkeeper Emily Ledford’s 13 saves. McMurray scored in the 30th minute on a breakaway from the Lee back line and slipped the ball past Ledford when the keeper guessed the wrong direction. McMurray curled the ball into the upper corner of the net from a near-impossible angle near the sideline for her second goal. Lee had chances in the second half, especially on a shot off the crossbar that would have cut the lead to one with less than five minutes remaining. The Lady Devils took 22 shots and Lee had five.
