Derek Russell Daily Journal Tupelo – After the storms passed Saturday evening, the sun shone brightly Sunday morning at Ballard Park, as community members gathered to pay their respects for a young boy who was killed tragically. Lane Rodgers, 10, of Byhalia, died Saturday after a falling limb snapped and hit the young boy in the back of the head during heavy rainfall and wind at the ball field. A collection was taken for the family of Rodgers, and a devotional was held, as is the norm for weekend sports tournaments in Tupelo, but this one took on a special meaning. “One of the coaches happened to be a pastor,” said Alex Farned, director of Tupelo Parks and Recreation.
