End Of An Era For Local Dining: Pat Summey Retires After 55 Years

KINGSPORT — A piece of local history retired last week.Pat Summey put down her order pad and hung up her apron after 55 years as a waitress in many of Kingsport’s best-known diners and cafes.A reading of her resume would send many longtime area residents — especially those with a penchant for breakfast — on a stroll down a local-eats memory lane.Summey started out at Chuck’s Drive-In on Industry Drive.That’s where she first decided she liked the breakfast shift.And not long after, diners who liked breakfast decided they liked Pat.The years stretched into decades and Pat’s career took her from one current hot-spot to the next.The Downtowner.
