SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP — Elida knew quarterback Logan Alexander wasn’t at 100 percent after turning an ankle last Friday in a win against Van Wert so they went with plan “B” Friday night against Shawnee. It worked and the 3 yards and a cloud of dust Bulldogs turned into air Elida for one game and the end result was a 35-0 Elida win in Western Buckeye League action. With Shawnee putting as many as 10 defenders in the box Elida went to the air and Alexander completed 11-of-22 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. Throw in 119 rushing yards and two scores for Cole Harmon and the Bulldogs were in complete control of the contest. Elida (4-3, 3-3 WBL) ran 40 offensive plays in the first half to only 15 for Shawnee as the Bulldogs took a 14-0 lead to the break. Shawnee fell to 0-7 overall and 0-6 in the WBL with the loss and continued a season long problem with turnovers and untimely penalties. The Indians lost two fumbles and threw two interceptions, both by Scott McDonnell, one of which was returned 50-yards for an Elida touchdown by McDonnell to put the Bulldogs up 35-0 late in the third period.
