In an effort to cut down on emergency response time, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and the city of Fountain have teamed up on a joint dispatch center for 911 calls. The service began Monday. "We believe this consolidation will not only meet, but exceed, the expectations of the public we serve, by enhancing the response of professional fire and police services to our citizens and community," the Sheriff's Office said in a news release. In the past, Sheriff Bill Elder said some 911 calls bounced from one dispatch center to another before they landed with the appropriate dispatcher.
