CEDAR BLUFF — Numerous sites across Southwest Virginia will be available for residents to clean out medicine cabinets and safely dispose of expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications. Drug Take Back Day can accept only pills or patches, no liquids, needles or sharps. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked. From 9 a.m.-1 p.m., locations include: Coeburn Police Department, Scott County Sheriff's Office, Food City in Weber City, Food City in Big Stone Gap, CVS Pharmacy in Norton, Food City in Wise, Food City in Pennington Gap, and Woody's Pharmacy in Independence. From 10 a.m.-2 p.m., locations include: Richlands Police Department, Food City in Clintwood, Grant's Supermarket in Tazewell, the Wythe County Sheriff's Office in Wytheville, Michael's Pharmacy in Abingdon, Food City in Lebanon, Food City in Bristol, Va., Glade Spring Pharmacy in Glade Spring, Food City in Vansant, Food City in Damascus, Food City in Marion, and the Galax Police Department. According to the Appalachian Substance Abuse Coalition (ASAC) Drug Take Back Day events help address vital public safety and public health issues. Home medicine cabinets can be sources of drug thefts, diversion, misuse and abuse.
