WISE — It was another big night for Gate City’s trio, but they couldn’t help but think something was wrong. “We just got chewed out in the locker room and rightly so. We just didn’t play together,” said the Blue Devils’ Mac McClung. “We won by whatever it was, but it just felt like we lost by 30.” The senior Georgetown signee finished with an impressive game-high 31 points to lead Gate City to a 70-56 Mountain 7 District win over the Union Bears on Wednesday in front of an estimated crowd of 2,850 at the Virginia-Wise Prior Convocation Center. Despite the strong scoring performance, McClung said his team needed to work harder if they wanted to reach their goals. “We’ve just got to get back to work,” said McClung. The win came in the first game for Gate City since the Blue Devils (8-1, 3-0) won three of four games and finished sixth in the Arby’s Classic last week. Gate City coach Scott Vermillion said the game was a different pace than what his squad played in the Arby’s. “It’s a different kind of game than what we played last week,” said Vermillion.
