Toxin found in Jordan River

The Salt Lake County Health Department warned people Friday not to enter the Jordan River after test results found an algae-related toxin in the water.
The results showed that the neuro toxin anatoxin-a was present at a “low level” of 0.1 micrograms per liter in the river, and the health department advised people and animals to avoid entering or drinking river water.

Trump meets with 3 Pearl Harbor survivors, including Provo’s Ken Potts

Navy veteran Ken Potts of Provo was one of three survivors from the USS Arizona who met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Friday.
Joining Potts were his fellow sailors Lauren Bruner and Donald Stratton. The event honored survivors from the famed ship that was destroyed in the Dec. 7, 1941 bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Former SLC firefighter union treasurer pleads guilty to stealing funds

A former Salt Lake City firefighters union treasurer accused of illegally taking more than $100,000 from the union pleaded guilty Friday.
Joshua Diamond pleaded guilty as charged, according to court records, to second-degree felony counts of communications fraud, theft by deception and unlawful dealing with property by a fiduciary. He also pleaded guilty to two counts of third-degree felony forgery.
Diamond, who resigned from the union in 2016, is expected to be sentenced on Oct. 13.

Police investigating body found in Utah’s Jordan River

Police found a human body in the Jordan River in Taylorsville on Friday.
A person walking by the river spotted the body near 4500 South and Bridgeside Way, Unified police said, and reported it to law enforcement.
Additional details were not immediately available.

Utah teen accused of causing two crash-related deaths to face charges in adult court

Monticello • A Moab teen involved in an accident that caused the death of two of his peers in March will face charges in adult court, a judge ruled Friday.
Gage Colton Moore waived his right to a preliminary hearing in 7th District Juvenile Court and agreed to have his case moved to the adult system.
