NEW HAVEN >> After an initial scare when President Donald Trump presented a budget that would eliminate federal funding for the Long Island Sound, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, announced Monday that Connecticut and Long Island representatives had secured $8 million for the waterway. "This is an enormous victory for our community and the Long Island Sound," DeLauro said, while standing in front of the Long Wharf Pier.

 

Staggers, Witherspoon resign from New Haven Board of Alders

NEW HAVEN >> The Board of Alders is losing two members.Alders Carlton Staggers, D-30, and Alberta Witherspoon, D-7, both submitted resignation letters notifying Mayor Toni Harp they no longer will serve on the city's legislative board. Staggers' resignation was effective Friday, while Witherspoon's letter is dated Monday and effective the same day.

New Haven man shot in face during exchange of gunfire between vehicles

NEW HAVEN >> A New Haven man was shot in the face and left arm Sunday afternoon in an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles on Walnut Street between East and Wallace streets around 1:24 p.m., police said.Police spokesman Officer David Hartman said moments later a gunshot victim was reported on East Street, south of Water Street, five blocks away from the initial reported exchange of bullets.
