Thurston and Springfield will try to right the ship this week when both teams play home football games on Friday night. Springfield (3-2, 2-1 Midwestern League) is coming off a tough loss against league-leading Ashland last week, and will play a midseason nonconference game against Hermiston at 7 p.m.

There’s a new volleyball coach at Thurston this fall, but the name will surely be familiar. Didier Hemelsoet has returned to coach the Colts after a four-year hiatus. A longtime coach in the area, Hemelsoet relieved Anna Barton, who led Thurston to a 32-35 record during the past three seasons.

Incidents FRIDAY, SEPT. 20 Assault: 10:07 p.m., 1500 block Mohawk Boulevard. Police arrested a man after responding to a dispute that began in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant. An employee said a man followed a woman inside the restaurant, where she began yelling in a bathroom.
