Heath Springs, Kershaw going to polls Tuesday

Voters in Heath Springs and Kershaw will head to the polls Tuesday to have their say on council terms that start in January 2018.
Both elections are nonpartisan, which means candidates don’t have to register with political parties. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Free flu shots for veterans

The Department of Veterans Affairs has once again teamed up with Walgreens to give free flu shots to all veterans who are enrolled in the VA health-care system.

To get the vaccinations anytime through March 31, 2018, vets simply need to present a Veterans Identification Card and a photo ID at any participating Walgreens Pharmacy. The Group ID is VAFLU.

 

Man charged with kidnapping, assault

A Lancaster man was arrested last Friday after he was accused of knifing a woman in a hotel room and holding her and another man against their will.

Kennis Crawford, 58, of 1955 Steel Hill Road, is charged with second-degree assault and battery and two counts of kidnapping.

A bizarre incident Saturday night included a threatening pickup, a shot from a security guard, a two-agency police chase topping 100 mph, a rammed house, an attempted escape on foot through some woods, and finally a DUI charge for a Lancaster man.

 

Settlement removes 2 defendants in suit filed by Tunnell

Keith Tunnell has reached a settlement with two of the parties he sued last year over his departure as president of the now-defunct Lancaster County Economic Development Corp.

Tunnell accused the S.C. I-77 Alliance and York Tech President Greg Rutherford, among other defendants, of defamation, breach of contract and civil conspiracy.
