UH to ask state for $16 million more

The University of Hawaii will seek $16.2 million in additional state funding for operations next fiscal year under a supplemental budget request approved unanimously Thursday by the university’s Board of Regents.

Friends, kin raise funds for shark attack victim

An outpouring of support continues for a North Shore resident and surfer who lost his lower left leg last week in a shark attack. Colin Cook, 25, a Tiverton, R.I., native who was living out his surfing dreams on the North Shore, hopes to return to the waves, family and friends say.

Three more possible BB or pellet gun incidents were reported Wednesday, adding to a half-dozen incidents that began last month. EMS responded to a possible BB gun shooting of a 13-year-old boy shortly after 5 p.m. at a Chevron gas station near Waipahu Intermediate School.

 

City hauls away last of debris from homeless encampment

The city finally cleared out the last of the Kakaako homeless encampment Wednesday after a five-day delay. City officials had hoped to have the encampment around the University of Hawaii medical school and Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center dismantled and cleaned up by Friday.
