UI trustees set to vote on naming another engineering building after donor

The Sidney Lu Mechanical Engineering Building is one of several naming actions up for approval at the trustees' meeting today in Springfield, including the proposed Grainger College of Engineering.

Parkland astronomy professor appointed to replace retiring planetarium director

At Wednesday night's meeting, trustees appointed Erik Johnson to succeed the retiring David Leake as director of the William M. Staerkel Planetarium, effective Aug. 12.

Artist to perform UI prof's electronic-music composition on 50th anniversary

URBANA — One of the earliest musical works for a computer, "HPSCHD," produced by University of Illinois Professor and composer John Cage, will be presented from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Analog Cafe, 129 N. Race Road, U.
The free performance by artist/producer Gary Pini marks the 50th anniversary of the piece's premiere on May 16, 1969, at the Assembly Hall.

Ex-UI student gets 4 years probation for role in cocaine-selling operation

Daniel Sagan, 22, pleaded guilty in March to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, admitting that in October 2017, he had between 1 and 15 grams of cocaine in his campus apartment on John Street that he intended to sell.

 

Molestation conviction brings 45-year sentence

Curtis Hairston, 43, of Champaign was sentenced for the predatory criminal sexual assault of a child who was under the age of 13 when she was molested in 2017.
