State graduated income tax amendment will be on 2020 ballot

A constitutional amendment that would allow the General Assembly to set higher tax rates on greater amounts of income passed its last legislative hurdle Monday and will head to the voters for final approval about 18 months from now.

Weather Service: 3 confirmed tornadoes in Champaign County, 'kind of par for the course'

Three EF-1 tornadoes — each on the ground for about a mile and each packing top wind speeds of between 90 and 100 mph — touched down in Champaign County early Sunday.

Residents of neighborhoods hardest hit by Sunday morning's violent storms insisted that nothing short of a tornado could have caused 100-year-old trees to be uprooted, roofs to be blown off homes and power lines to be knocked down.
