The City Council unanimously approved a revised budget that reduces property taxes for homeowners by 4 percent next year. The $84.6 million spending plan, adopted Friday during a quick special finance committee meeting at City Hall, also includes money for a $47,000-a-year full time affirmative action officer and about $29,000 in benefits for the position. The budget also eliminates several positions, generally described as information technology jobs, the mayor put in his 2017 spending plan. Last month, Mayor Gary McCarthy introduced a spending plan that called for a 3.26 percent tax cut.
