Cashless Tolling Begins On Mass Pike

For those without E-ZPass, a photograph will be taken of the license plate and a bill sent to the vehicle's registered owner. Drivers will still have to slow down to 15 mph for a while because work crews will be demolishing and removing the toll booths and reconfiguring the turnpike at those locations. When the work is done, drivers will be able to maintain highway speeds without slowing to pay tolls. The state Thruway Authority said it is looking at other locations where using cashless tolling could help improve traffic flow and reduce congestion, but did not offer any timeline for the next steps.
