With all the talk focused on Android, iPhone, and lately Windows Phone 7, I’m glad the guys at Opera haven’t forgetten about the group of us who are still using Windows Mobile 6.5 (or earlier versions). Opera released a native version of Opera Mini 5 Beta for Windows Mobile earlier this year, and being a beta release, it was buggy. Sometime in September, they finally got a chance fix those bugs and improve the page rendering.
I finally installed it on my HD2. Everything’s good, except I can’t load up Wopular on it unless it’s on mobile format. Other pages that I visit often load up fine, though. Pages are rendered more accurately and faster. I no longer get blank white pages like I do with the beta version sometimes. With the beta release, text was too small; I ended up installing a modified version with larger fonts which screws up the page layout, but is at least legible. Text size is perfect on the HD2 with version 5.1.
Opera Mini compresses websites by up to 90% before sending the results to your phone. It’s, by far, the fastest browser on mobile phones.
