Florida's unemployment rate rose slightly in August thanks to a loss of 16,000 jobs. Adjusting for seasonal differences, Florida's unemployment rate ticked up from 11.5 percent in July to 11.7 percent in August. Preliminary unemployment rates also rose in South Florida, which led the state in job losses for the past 12 months, down 6,200 positions compared to August 2009.
