Henry Roth's final work is a poignant meditation on worship of success

In 1934, at the age of 28, Henry Roth published his first novel, "Call It Sleep," a remarkable, heavily autobiographical portrait of the artist as a young boy in the Jewish tenements of New York's Lower East Side. For the next 50 years or so, Roth struggled to complete a second novel without success.
