Comment on Buc-ee’s proposal for second Colorado store near Palmer Lake sparks community pushback, lawsuit

The Associated Press Trump’s pick for national security adviser, Florida Rep. Mike Waltz, said in an interview on Wednesday that the president-elect is exploring options to “preserve” TikTok. Waltz made the comment when Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked him about a report from The Washington Post that said Trump was considering an executive order to suspend enforcement of a federal law that could ban the popular platform nationwide by Sunday. Last week, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a legal challenge to the statute brought by TikTok, its China-based parent company ByteDance, and users of the app.

Suni Williams, the station’s commander, had to tackle some overdue outdoor repair work alongside NASA’s Nick Hague.

Johnson’s Corner, a beloved Johnstown truck stop famous for its scratch-made cinnamon rolls, restaurant and memorable appearance in the 1996 film “Larger than Life,” is temporarily closing its doors for remodeling as it prepares to reopen as a Black Bear Diner. “Johnson’s Corner is not closing its doors. We are not just abruptly leaving, we’re just remodeling our restaurant,” said Johnson’s Corner General Manager Eric Quintana on a phone call with The Post about the closing. The restaurant is now completely closed and will be torn down, according to Quintana. “The whole thing will be remodeled, including the kitchen, all the bathrooms in the restaurant side, they’re taking flooring out and redoing lighting,” he said.

Colorado’s first Buc-ee’s — a Texas-based convenience store and gas station chain known for its barbecue, store-brand snacks and happy beaver logo — was greeted in March with fanfare and long lines in Johnstown on Interstate 25 about 50 miles north of Denver. A proposal to build the state’s second Buc-ee’s along I-25 near Palmer Lake, south of Denver in El Paso County, has prompted a different reaction.

Avanti Food & Beverage opened in Lower Highland in July 2015, one of the first of what would become more than 20 upscale food halls in metro Denver. Since then, Avanti has also opened in Boulder and, most recently, Vail. Now, in advance of its 10th anniversary, Avanti, 3200 Pecos St., has closed the first floor of the building for a large-scale remodel.
