PFAS compounds have carbon-fluorine bonds, one of the strongest in chemistry. Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS, have earned the nickname “forever chemicals” from their extraordinary ability to stick around in the environment long after they’ve been used.
