The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, has hit back against a news report that suggests the company’s next flagship model would be launched by December. It was on Friday (October 25) when The Verge published a report titled ‘OpenAI plans to release its next big AI model by December.’ In the article, the journalists write that they have learned the startup’s new model, codenamed Orion, is slated to arrive around the two-year anniversary of ChatGPT. The generative AI chatbot was launched on 30 November 2022, making its two-year anniversary just a few weeks away. The published piece also states the next model wouldn’t initially be released widely through ChatGPT as instead, OpenAI “is planning to grant access first to companies it works closely with in order for them to build their own products and features, according to a source familiar with the plan.” The article says another source told them that engineers inside Microsoft are preparing to host Orion on Azure as early as November.
