Regional Transportation District passengers will be able to ride for free on two upcoming voting days to encourage voter participation, RTD officials said. RTD and Colorado County Clerks Association officials said National Vote Early Day on Tuesday, Oct. 29, and Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 5, will both be “Zero Fare” days. The free transportation days are part of a program called “Zero Fare to Vote” and are intended to remove a cost barrier for people who need to travel on public transportation to cast their ballot, RTD officials said. “Providing RTD customers with systemwide zero-fare transit to access polling places was well received when introduced in 2022,” RTD’s CEO Debra Johnson said in a news release.

The National Hurricane Center on Tuesday continued to track a system in the Atlantic and one that could form in the Caribbean that have chances to develop into the season’s next tropical depression or storm. As of the NHC’s 8 a.m. tropical outlook, one system located in the central tropical Atlantic was a well-defined area of low pressure with occasional showers and thunderstorms. “This system remains embedded in a dry air environment, and development is unlikely over the next couple of days,” forecasters said.

The City Council on Monday rezoned a 31-acre property that was formerly home to a military supply depot in northeast Denver’s Clayton neighborhood. The zoning changes, more than a year in the making, clear the way for an affordable housing project that will cater to LGBTQ+ seniors, property owners say. The council’s final 9-2 vote came despite significant reservations voiced by even members who ended up supporting the changes. Members worried that rezoning the expansive property to a set of rules that allow housing could open the door to mass redevelopment that would wipe away job-creating commercial space.
