Broward spent $11 million to bring in international cricket. Then terrible weather got in the way.

Broward County might have been so close, on the precipice of generating millions of dollars more in revenue. But its return on investment didn’t pan out instantly as expected, given the resources poured into cricket-related stadium improvements at the county’s Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill. Vicious weather derailed most of the scheduled games earlier this year, and while the county says it still profited from tourists, it wasn’t the exact outcome that officials had hoped for. The Broward County Commission invested $11.6 million to spruce up the park for the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup scheduled for June. That included $5.5 million for permanent bleachers to bring the capacity to 12,500 people.
