For most of his life, UCF receiver Trent Whittemore has been surrounded by the familiar blue and orange of the University of Florida. Growing up in Gainesville, it’s hard to avoid the proverbial shadow cast by the Gators football program. It’s SEC Country and you’re reminded of the history and tradition surrounding UF from Alligator Alley to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Even at home, the ties that bind Whittemore to Florida run deep. His mother, grandfather and great-grandfather all graduated from the school and Whittemore played for his father Mark at nearby Gainesville’s Bucholz High School, about a 10-minute drive from the campus. A jack-of-all-trades type of player, Whittemore played quarterback, cornerback, safety and wide receiver in high school.
