A Canadian firm that wants to build a “Nordic spa” near Roxborough State Park goes before Douglas County leaders for the first time Tuesday evening. The county commission is set to vote on whether to approve a metro district for a 35-acre site largely surrounded by Arrowhead Golf Course. The land, which features jagged red rock formations, is owned by Calgary-based Pomeroy Lodging. Buz Koelbel, who led his father’s Denver-area real estate firm for nearly 40 years before stepping down from the top job earlier this year, has died. Koelbel Sr., was a Michigan native who moved to Colorado for military training in World War II, then stayed to attend the University of Colorado Boulder.

Sherman & Howard, Denver’s oldest and third-largest law firm, is merging with Taft, a law firm that started in Cincinnati and is expanding west. Stefan Stein, CEO of Sherman & Howard, said in an interview Monday that the Denver firm had been exploring strategies for growth over the past couple of years. “It’s a difficult spot to be in the market in a 125-to-a-150-lawyer, full-service law firm and be able to handle virtually anything that comes in the door,” Stein said.

Stellantis said Tavares’s five-year contract is a little over a year from its expiration date in 2026.
