President-elect Donald Trump has chosen Florida congressman Michael Waltz as his national security advisor. U. S. Rep. Waltz, R-St. Augustine Beach, a retired Army Green Beret, will take over one of the most important foreign policy roles in the country, one which does not require Senate confirmation. His appointment, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, was widely confirmed Monday night. His departure from Congress triggers a special election for Florida’s congressional District 6, which stretches from Daytona Beach to Mount Dora. Entering the Trump White House marks the culmination of Waltz’ shift from Trump critic to stalwart ally, which included being floated as a potential running mate to Trump earlier this year. He is likely to play a major role in Trump policy on Ukraine, where he evolved from a prominent Ukraine hawk to an opponent to an aid package to the country in April. The billionaire Tesla and SpaceX CEO provided the vast majority of the money to America PAC, which focused on low-propensity and first-time voters, according to the person, who was not authorized to disclose the figure publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. America PAC’s work was aided by a March ruling from the Federal Election Commission that paved the way for super PACs to coordinate their canvassing efforts with campaigns, allowing the Trump campaign to rely on the near-unlimited money of the nation’s most high-profile billionaire to boost turnout in deep-red parts of the country.

As of Monday afternoon, 30 of the 43 monkeys that made it outside the Alpha Genesis facility in Yemassee are back in the company’s custody unharmed, police said in a statement. Most if not all of the Rhesus macaques appeared to stay close to the compound after their escape Wednesday and Alpha Genesis employees have been watching them and luring them back with food, officials said. They cooed at the monkeys remaining inside and interacted with the primates still inside the fence, the company told police. Veterinarians have been examining the animals that were brought back and initial reports indicate they are all in good health, police said. Alpha Genesis has said that efforts to recover all the monkeys will continue for as long as it takes at its compound about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from downtown Yemassee and about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Savannah, Georgia. The monkeys are about the size of a cat.
