In February 2023, Canadian criminal-defense lawyer Solomon Friedman was wrapping up a high-profile terrorism trial. Awso Peshdary had been accused of recruiting and funding two young Canadian men to join ISIS in Syria. One later appeared in a propaganda video encouraging terrorist attacks in Canada; both were presumed dead. Friedman had thrown everything at the case, including forcing Canada’s secret service to hand over its records on a key witness, a highly paid confidential informant.
