Valerie Constien will have an opportunity to compete for an Olympic medal. The former Colorado track and cross country standout advanced out of the opening round of the 3,000-meter women’s steeplechase early Sunday morning at the Paris Olympics. Constien, who set a meet record while winning the US Olympic Trials earlier this summer while just 15 months removed from ACL surgery, finished 12th overall with a time of 9 minutes, 16.33 seconds. The top five from each of three heats advanced to Tuesday’s final, and Constien survived a tight finish to place third in the second heat.
