  • Living Explore Colorado’s electric byways on an EV road trip
    Denver Post, 05/29/2024 - 5:00am

The adventure no one needs this summer is having their car run out of gas — or battery charge for hybrid and electric vehicles. As the state adds more charging stations strategically placed along scenic byways, electric vehicle drivers have more chances to see Colorado scenery. As of February, 65% of the Centennial State’s historic and scenic byways are “electrified.” The Colorado Department of Transportation’s Scenic & Historic Byway Commission announced that 17 of Colorado’s 26 byways have electric charging stations within 100 miles.

  • Politics Fox Helps Peggy Noonan Long For The Good Old Days Of 1900
    Crooks and Liars, 05/28/2024 - 3:00pm

Nothing like using a column by Nooners heaping praise on a book published back in 1900 as an excuse for some hippie punching on the topic of patriotism by the hacks on Fox on Memorial Day. I wish I was kidding, but that was one of the discussions on this Monday's Outnumbered. Noonan's op-ed, which was published last Thursday was titled "Teach Your Children to Love America," with the subtitle, "For Memorial Day, I’m taking inspiration from the New York schools’ 1900 ‘Manual of Patriotism.’" Here's how Noonan described the book in her article: "I’ve spent the past few days reading an old book, one that couldn’t possibly be published today because it’s so full of respect for America." Yes, I'm so sure that "respect" is the only reason it wouldn't be published now Peggers. Kayleigh McEnany started things off reading from a portion of Noonan's column: Parents, teach your children to love America, either as an extension of your own love or as a simple kindness to them. We live in an age—I’ll say this part quickly as we all know it—in which children are instructed in 100 different ways through 100 different portals that America is and always was a dark and scheming place, that its history is the history of pushing people around, often in an amoral quest for wealth but also because we aren’t very nice.

  • Business T-Mobile to buy almost all of U.S Cellular in deal worth $4.4 billion with debt
    Chicago Tribune, 05/28/2024 - 5:05am

T-Mobile is buying U. S. Cellular’s wireless operations and certain spectrum assets in a deal valued at $4.4 billion, and further consolidating the industry. As part of the agreement, T-Mobile will get U. S. Cellular’s wireless operations and about 30% of spectrum assets across several spectrum bands. T-Mobile will also enter into a new master license agreement on more than 2,000 towers and extend the lease term for the approximately 600 towers where T-Mobile is already a tenant. “Bringing together UScellular’s network resources with ours will enable us to fill gaps in connectivity that will create a better experience for all of our customers with more coverage and more capacity,” T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert said in a statement. T-Mobile said Tuesday that U.

  • Books Readers Take Denver cancels 2025 conference after attendees decry “Fyre Festival of books”
    Denver Post, 05/02/2024 - 5:00am

Several thousand romance readers from across the country descended on the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center two weeks ago for Readers Take Denver, billed as a four-day conference where bibliophiles would have the chance to mingle with their favorite authors, get books signed, and attend panels and other events. But attendees say the April 18-21 conference was so disorganized and chaotic — self-described “RTD survivor” Kelli Meyer referred to it as “the Fyre Festival of books” — that authors soon began pulling out of next year’s event at the Aurora hotel, which already was on sale. This week, Readers Take Denver announced its 2025 edition was canceled. “I’ve been to many conferences and this, by far, was the worst one I’ve ever been to,” said Sarah Slusarczyk, a 32-year-old who traveled from Michigan.

  • Travel A weekend guide in Ouray, the country’s No. 1 vacation destination of 2024
    Denver Post, 04/15/2024 - 5:00am

Editor’s note: This is part of The Know’s series, Staff Favorites. Each week, we offer our opinions on the best that Colorado has to offer for dining, shopping, entertainment, outdoor activities and more. (We’ll also let you in on some hidden gems). My birthday is close to Memorial Day weekend every year, and I like to take advantage of the long weekend by checking a town off of my Colorado travel list. In years past, my friends and I have soaked up the San Juan Mountain views in the warmth of the Pagosa hot springs and gone whitewater rafting in Class 4 rapids down the Royal Gorge in Cañon City.
