MIAMI — In the wake of losing Gabe Vincent in NBA free agency to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Miami Heat moved for a different type of reunion, bringing Josh Richardson back to the franchise. Dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2019 trade that delivered Jimmy Butler to the Heat, Richardson agreed Friday to rejoin the Heat after leaving the New Orleans Pelicans in free agency. The Heat often have cycled back to players who previously had thrived in their system, with Richardson, 29, the team’s second-round pick in 2015. Unable to gain the traction he initially developed with the Heat, Richardson, after going from the Heat to the 76ers, has since also played for the Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs and Pelicans. The agreement with Richardson is for two seasons at the veteran minimum, with the second year a player option.
