Denver relaxed zoning rules to spur ADU construction — but stopped short of one controversial rollback

Denver has new rules around accessory dwelling units after a year-long process aimed at knocking down some barriers preventing homeowners from building the tinier, secondary units viewed as a tool for fighting the city’s affordable housing crisis. But city officials left one key barrier in place. The homeowner still has to live on the property — either in the main home or the accessory unit — if they want to add an ADU.
