A researcher has developed a new type of battery technology that could prevent electric vehicle fires, such as those caused by flooding after hurricanes. The battery is called an aqueous battery, and it doesn’t use the flammable organic solvents found in lithium ion batteries. Instead, the battery uses saltwater to create a battery that is safer and even charges faster. What is an aqueous battery? Aqueous batteries won’t short circuit during flooding because the saltwater they use instead of solvents isn’t flammable.
