District 155 hasn't communicated with hackers, paid ransom following ransomware attack

Crystal Lake School District 155 has not communicated with the hackers or paid any ransom after its computers were infected with ransomware Friday, a spokeswoman said on Wednesday. District spokeswoman Shannon Podzimek said in an email Wednesday that the district’s restoration efforts have been performed from secure backup systems that it maintains. Superintendent Steve Olson wrote in an email to parents Monday, which was shared by a parent with the Northwest Herald, that the district’s network monitoring systems detected the virus on a number of Windows computers Friday. After an analysis, the district said no student data, or other sensitive information, was accessed or compromised during the cyberattack.
