By Kayla BranchStaff writerkbranch@oklahoman.comAfter several months of slow progress, the Oklahoma County Jail Trust can finally create its own bank account and take more concrete steps toward managing the county jail.At their Monday meeting, trustees approved a contract between the trust and the county treasurer’s office, allowing the treasurer to provide financial services for a rate of about $1,380 a month. It’s a huge step forward, Chairwoman Tricia Everest said.“In another scenario, which I am hopeful we will never have to do, is ask the county for money so we can go out and recreate services that they already do and are really good at,” she said after the meeting, adding that these costs are substantially lower than what another entity would offer. The account will likely be set up by the end of the week.Read more on NewsOK.com
