Cedar waxwings are social nomads, controllers of pests

I was in first grade when American goldfinches got me excited about birds. They were so yellow. Nothing in my crayon box could match their brilliance. I had to stand on my tiptoes to peer out the window to see them. But if goldfinches were the bait, it was cedar waxwings that set the hook.
