Hockinson beats Lynden 42-37, repeats as 2A football state champions

TACOMA — Junior Sawyer Racanelli accounted for all six of Hockinson’s touchdowns to help the Hawks repeat as Class 2A state champions in a 42-37 victory over Lynden in Saturday afternoon’s 2A state championship game at the Tacoma Dome. The Hawks captured their second straight perfect season at 13-0 and ends the year on a state-best 27-game winning streak dating back to last season’s 14-0 campaign when it won the program’s first state title. Saturday, Lynden led by as many as 24-7 with 8 minutes, 38 seconds left in the third quarter using a 77-yard scoring drive before Hockinson rallied for good. The Hawks outscored Lynden 35-14 in the second half, including a fourth quarter that had four lead changes the first 6 minutes. Racanelli’s 1-yard touchdown run with 6:35 to play gave the Hawks their second lead of the quarter, and ultimately, the lead for good at 35-31.
