Early morning fire renders McHenry home uninhabitable

A two-story house in McHenry is uninhabitable following an early morning fire on Wednesday, according to a news release from the McHenry Township Fire Protection District. At 2:39 a.m., crews were dispatched to the 1800 block of Redwood Lane for reports of a structure fire and found the home ablaze, the release said. Within minutes of their arrival, firefighters began an aggressive attack plan for the fire and discovered all of the occupants had safely exited. The fire district stressed the importance of working smoke detectors in homes as the family was alerted to the fire and was able to safely escape the house due to presence of working detectors, the release said. Within 20 minutes, the fire was under control and was fully extinguished within an hour.
