Michigan's State Board of Education has named Sheila Alles as interim state superintendent, following the death last week of Brian Whiston.Alles has been the chief deputy state superintendent at the Michigan Department of Education since March 2017.Whiston, 56, a Waterford Township native, died May 7 after a battle with cancer.
